It is almost that time again: Wedding Season. Starting in a few months your calenders will be booked every weekend. Last year I had 12 weddings-talk about a busy few months and a crunch on your wallet. Whether you are the Bride or a guest of the wedding, your dress is the most important element. Going to countless weddings, I had to buy a new dress for each wedding (lets face it, being photographed in the same dress is lame). So, I had to devise a fashion plan for wedding season.
Prior to the first wedding, I kept an eye out for any sales at my local vendors. I didn’t care how cheap the dress was- If I found it at Goodwill and it was cute-I would buy it! I would go around to my friends houses and go through their dress selection.
Everyone knows the dress code if you are NOT the bride : the main one, DON’T WEAR A WHITE DRESS~ Only the bride wears that color!
Black is the main color you will see. But for the Spring and Summer weddings, be different: wear Pink, Orange, Gray, Navy, Red, Purple or Yellow
All these dresses are from my go-to dress shop Nordstrom
Try to decide the vibe of the wedding and base your outfit around that. If it is an outdoor wedding-don’t wear a silk dress wear a fun sundress. If the wedding is more formal, then pick a satin or Taffeta dress.
It can be tough during wedding season: but keep an eye out for sales, raid your friends closet or just add different jewelry to the dress. Just think how the bride feels finding a dress—because their dress is the center of the wedding. Your job is to eat, drink and be merry (and look cute while doing it).
One of the latest trends has been nail polish. In fact, now there are tons of patterns and shades that one can buy. One place that has all the latest and greatest colors is Beauty Brands. They have a whole section that is devoted to nail polish and everything that you need to do a home mani-pedi.
I know that changing your polish can be a pain and a challenge. But I find that it adds that added detail to an outfit. I like to have a few go-to colors for the spring, summer, fall and winter. For the Spring I would go with a pale pink - Summer a Hot Pink or a Neon Color - For Fall and Winter I would pick a Navy or Black .
A Manicure should last about a week, but there are advancements in polish. Now you can have a manicure last 3 weeks. It will cost just a tad more, but in my book, it is well worth it! If you HATE polish, then you should try press on nails that already have polish applied to them or now they have peel and apply which has NO dry time. (the peel and applies have fun patterns and colors, and are REALLY easy to apply!)
Whenever you have a fresh coat of polish on, you will feel 100% put together.
Jewelry. An added sparkle that completes the outfit. The best thing you can have is a collection of pieces that can be paired up with any outfit. Whether that is a rope bracelet for those beach days or a crystal necklace for a night out on the town. Either way, that added accessory pulls the entire outfit together. I find if I am having a slumpy day but I still have to look good, I usually add chunky pearls-and poof-I automatically look like I spent hours putting together a cohesive look. I suggest costume jewelry because it has high-perceived-value. I find that Forever 21 has some of the best priced jewelry and a wide selection. If you are looking for classic pieces that will last a little longer I suggest J. Crew.
The Key Items that you should have in your collection:
People always think that you should not mix gold and silver. Well, guess what, you can now. All those rules are out of the window. What I like to do is have find pieces that have gold and silver mixed so that way you can wear anything.
When it comes to Jewelry: Just Have Fun
ashion these days can cost into the thousands. It is hard to look through a Magazine and see the cute outfits from Chanel, Louis Vuitton and YSL. You know that you can’t afford anything on the page, except maybe the socks…then you find that those are $450 cashmere socks. Just great. I find it fun to take the looks that you love from the magazines and try and recreate them for less. Print off the picture that you want to recreate and hit the shops. Go to places like Walmart, Target, K-Mart, TJMaxx and other discounted stores to find look-a-like pieces. My favorite blog when it comes to this idea is http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/. Here are some examples of what she does:
This is a great way to save money and still look great. I know it’s hard to look put together with little funds, but with a little time and effort you can pull of any designer look!
For most women, shoes are where it is at. You can tell a lot about someone depending on the shoes they wear. Think for a moment, when you are feeling sassy and flirty, are you going to wear beat up Converse? Probably not. You will probably be sporting a sleek high heel, full of attitude and confidence. If you have the Converse on, you are probably just hanging out and goofing around. Shoes determine the type of day that you will have. I think that is why women have so many shoes: you never know the mood you will be in. In my belief, you can never have too many!
My boyfriend always asks me, “why do you need 13 pairs of black heels?” All boys see is the shade black. Little do they know, there are chunky heels, strappy, backless, peep-toe, pointy-toe, casual, dressy, boots, flats and many other types of “black” shoes. They all convey a certain look for that perfect outfit. I think it is funny that almost all women can relate to shoes. Usually a women will compliment another women on her shoes to get into their good graces. That is how all women usually make friends!
Looking Cute in the Winter can be tough! You no longer have that great tan and cute floral print dresses to boost your attitude. Instead, you have pale skin and frumpy sweaters. I find that you can still look cute by layering anything in your closet. The main thing I wear in the winter are scarves. You can dress them up or you can go casual. People always ask me where I get my scarves-well, everywhere from K-Mart to Coach. I usually wear all black and pair it with a vibrant scarf full of pattern and color. With that look you will be ready for a day at work or a night out on the town. Some of my favorite looks include:
This is great look to lounge around the house in. It’s cute and cozy!
Leopard prints are great to spice up an outfit!
Here are some great ways to wear a scarf!! It is so easy, anyone can do it!
25 Ways to Wear a Scarf
In the words of Heidi Klum, “In fashion, one day you’re in, and the next you’re out.” I remember when I was in Middle School Dr. Martins were all the rage. The more pairs you had, the more popular you were. Now, I wouldn’t be caught dead in them. In today’s fashion world, colors and patterns have become bolder, it is now OK to wear white after labor day, the past is making a come back and women are wearing men’s fashion. I find it hard to keep up with what is “in” because fashion trends are always changing. With all the people I know, it seems like the trend is wear what you want, anything goes. I find myself being my own person and wearing what I like, with a hint of what’s “in”. For example, I will pair my skinny jeans with my boyfriends baggy sweater- add heals and pearls and you have the perfect mix of shabby chic. I found some great websites that have information about the latest trends
The best fashion advice that I have ever been given was dress for yourself, if you want to wear a fancy dress or sweat pants, do it, who cares what others think.
Custom t-shirts are a staple of college life. Even the most fashion minded college students can be seen on their way to early morning classes sporting custom t-shirts promoting student organizations, fraternities, sororities and local businesses.
James Scott Tucker and two of his classmates at the University of Texas recognized an entrepreneurial opportunity when they looked around at all of the student organizations trying to find a vendor for custom t-shirts. They recognized that the organizations had portions of their budgets allocated for producing custom apparel, but that there was no continuity between the prices each organization paid vendors. So James Scott Tucker, Sunny Das and Zachary Cook founded Texas Custom Apparel, with the goal of becoming the standard supplier of custom clothes to student organizations and local businesses.
One of the advantages of Texas Custom Apparel is that they have a fast turnaround time, thanks to the company favoring U.S. based suppliers, and working with local companies in Austin as much as possible.
According the story about Texas Custom Apparel in The Daily Texan customers are happy with the results so far.
Of course, we are happy to hear that while the company’s founding team is composed of engineering students, they had the foresight to bring on two designers to make sure every product they put out is beautiful. A custom apparel company isn’t worth much if it doesn’t promote great fashion!
A Shoe In Fashion wishes the best of luck to James Scott Tucker and Texas Custom Apparel.
Starting a new business can be fraught with difficulty. Being given a helping hand at the start of a new venture can make the difference between success and failure. The University of Texas in Austin appreciates the difficulties faced by students when starting a new business, and provides assistance via the Longhorn Entrepreneurship Agency (LEA).
The agency has helped many students start out a new venture, with Sunny Das, James Scott Tucker and Zachary Cook the latest to benefit from LEA help. The three students have now formed Texas Custom Apparel after identifying a gap in the market for the provision of high quality custom apparel to student organizations.
The trio plan to solve the problem faced by students, organizations and businesses seeking custom T-shirt designs on a limited budget. Through local collaboration with companies in Austin the team plans to provide a service based on three key fundamentals; excellent customer service, low prices and a quick turnaround on orders. By achieving these three fundamental aims James Scott Tucker and Sunny Das plan to make Texas Custom Apparel the number one supplier of custom apparel to student organizations in Austin. The business plan is sound, the market is there and with LEA assistance the business has the best possible chance of becoming a success.
LEA Director, Grant Heimer appreciates the value of starting up a business while a student at University. In a recent interview with the The Daily Texan he says, “Considering that UT-Austin has some of the brightest students in the country and that the city of Austin is a top-tier, national startup hub, it makes perfect sense to expect a growing entrepreneurial culture on our campus,”
Company president James Scott Tucker is dedicated to making the business a success in spite of a high workload as a petroleum engineering junior. With Das as CEO, Zachary Cook as Chief Technology officer and with the expert guidance of the LEA, the business has the best possible start and success is almost certain to follow.
